One of the things Doctor Randy F. Davis is most proud of is his continued work with the Carson Scholars Program. The Carson Scholars Program is supported by the Carson Scholars Fund and was founded by Dr. Ben Carson. The program aspires to award students who exemplify the highest standards of academic excellence and community service. As an associate professor at the Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland, Doctor Randy F. Davis recognizes the importance of education and has been one of the many donators who have helped deserving students afford a college education.
To date, the Carson Scholars Program has awarded more than 7300 scholarships to students in all fifty states. In total, over $4.7 million in scholarships funds have been raised by Dr. Randy F. Davis and countless other donors. The program was started in 1996 when 25 students received $1000 scholarships. Today, that number has risen to 500 annually. The Carson Scholars Fund awards scholarships to students in grades 4-11.
By awarding students who may be years away from going to college, it sets the motivation for them to strive to do their best. Students are allowed to reapply annually to increase their funding. In addition to the money, scholarship winners receive an Olympic-sized medal and a trophy their school can display to showcase their accomplishments. Plus, the scholarship winners have the honor of being among the very elite students who have been named Carson Scholars.
